Community Leader Awarded prestigious University of Cambridge Online Scholarship

 


1 May 2024, South Africa – The Lowveld is beaming with pride as one of its very own inspirational community leaders, Her Royal Highness Princess Eurika Mogane, has been awarded the 2024 University of Cambridge Online Scholarship in Sustainable Development Goals: Law and Policy.
This scholarship is taught by a global expert and is uniquely action-oriented. The course builds on new materials from the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), to help key industry leaders to build their capacity to contribute to achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the 2030 Agenda.


Princess Mogane’s story is familiar to many for moving from being a University drop-out due to financial constraints, to being an office cleaner and now a Multi-Award Winning Community Leader and Beauty and Spa Centre. Her story of hope inspired so many that South African universities have reached out to her to be a Student Mentor, equipping students with life skills.


“As the top candidate on the scholarship waitlist, we are delighted to share the good news that HRH Princess Eurika Mogane has been chosen among several competitive applications from around the world to be a scholarship recipient. We are pleased to accept such an exemplary candidate,” said Tejas Rao, the Senior Manager from the University of Cambridge.


Currently Princess Mogane is on the Recommendation List as a Commissioner for Gender Equality, with consideration from HE President Cyril Ramaphosa. This scholarship is set to equip her in her role as a Community Leader and Ambassador for Gender Equality Programs.

“I’m truly honored to be part of this remarkable opportunity to represent South Africa at this highly esteemed institution, as the Class of 2024. I hope to engage with a international cohort of academically and intellectually community – focused students with diverse backgrounds. My biggest role is to bring hope to the youth of South Africa that is seeking learning opportunities but are from limited backgrounds like myself. There is still hope and opportunities waiting for you out there, don’t give up!”, said Princess Mogane.


Professor Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger, Chair of the Sustainable Development Law and Policy of the University of Cambridge, said this year’s applicants were extremely competitive, yet the recipients of the scholarship are an impressive and diverse group with HRH Princess Mogane being one of the top candidates. The candidates leadership, community impact and commendable education merits played a pivotal role in their selection.
